The short version

What is an AI dental scribe?

An AI dental scribe listens to a dental appointment and turns the conversation into a structured clinical note. Instead of typing after each patient, the dentist records the visit, reviews the drafted note, and signs it off. Chairscribe is an AI dental scribe built specifically for dentistry, by dentists.

How it works

Three steps, then it's done

1

Record

Tap record and treat your patient. Chairscribe transcribes the appointment in real time and understands dental terminology.

2

Review

The note drafts itself into your template. Ambiguous details are flagged, and every line cites where it came from in the transcript.

3

Sign off

Accept the draft, make it yours, and paste it into your practice software. No integration needed, just one click.

Why dental-specific

A general scribe writes medical notes. You write dental ones.

Chairscribe is built around the way a dental appointment actually runs.

Typing after every patient steals your day a few minutes at a time. Dictation helps, but you are still composing the note yourself, sentence by sentence, from memory. And general medical scribes were trained on GP consults, not on tooth numbers, surfaces, and materials.

Chairscribe drafts from what was actually said in the surgery, into dental templates like SOAP notes, perio exams, and denture consults. It knows your materials and your shorthand because you teach it yours once. If you are weighing up options, our guide to choosing an AI scribe for dentistry covers what to check before you commit.

Questions

Asked by dentists, answered plainly

What is an AI dental scribe?
An AI dental scribe listens to a dental appointment and turns the conversation into a structured clinical note. Instead of typing after each patient, you record the visit, review the drafted note, and sign it off. What is an AI dental scribe?
How accurate is it with dental terminology?
Chairscribe is built for dentistry, so it understands the vocabulary of an appointment: teeth, surfaces, materials, anaesthetics. Anything ambiguous is flagged for a second look, and every line ties back to the transcript. You review and sign every note, so the record is always yours. How to choose an AI scribe for dentistry
Is it safe to use AI with patient conversations?
Audio is processed in real time and deleted immediately, so no recordings are stored. Notes are encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS in transit, and our AI providers work under strict data agreements that forbid training on your data. Is AI dental note software secure?
Do I need patient consent to record appointments in Australia?
Yes. Recording a patient conversation needs the patient’s consent. Asking takes one sentence, and most patients are happy once they know the recording helps their record and is not kept. AI scribes and patient consent in Australia
Where is my patient data stored?
In Australia. Audio is never stored at all, and the notes that are saved sit encrypted on Australian infrastructure. How we keep data safe
Does it work with my practice management software?
Chairscribe runs in its own browser tab, so there is nothing to install and no integration project. When the note is ready, paste it straight into any practice software with one click.
Can I use my own note templates?
Yes. Chairscribe drafts into your templates, whether that is SOAP, perio, denture consults, or something you built yourself, so every note comes out in your structure. Creating templates: the basic guide
How much does an AI dental scribe cost?
Chairscribe is A$129 per month, or A$1,290 per year with two months free. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, no card needed.
Do I need a special microphone?
No. Chairscribe works with your device’s microphone, and you can use it as an admin tool without one. A quality microphone does improve transcription in a noisy surgery. What microphone should I use?
Will I just spend the saved time editing the note?
Reviewing is much faster than writing. Chairscribe flags what deserves a second look and cites where each detail came from, so you check the flags rather than re-read everything. One of our beta dental assistants put it this way: checking the notes takes a minute or two, not ten. How to write dental clinical notes faster
How long do I need to keep dental records in Australia?
As a general rule, at least seven years after the last visit for adults, and longer for children. The exact requirement depends on your state or territory, so check the rules that apply to your practice. How long to keep dental records in Australia
